How do I ask for an informational chat?

A friend suggested informational chats and I do not know how to ask. Any experience at all would help. I want advice, not a job directly. What did you ask?

Do not apologise for asking. Most people remember someone who helped them.

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
