How do I ask for an informational chat? - 4 months and counting

A friend suggested informational chats and I do not know how to ask. I would rather hear the honest version than the polite one. Some people reply with short answers. How do you phrase the request?

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it 4 months ago, and it got easier once I kept a simple log of every call and form.
