Going back after 8 months at home (Detroit)

I stepped out for 8 months to care for a family member and now want to return. I worked as an insurance claims processor before this. I want flexible hours. What helped?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
