Getting references after a company closes, electrician's helper here

I worry a reference will only confirm dates of employment. I worked as an electrician's helper before this. HR only confirms titles and dates. How do you ask politely?

A client reference worked well for me. It shows you deliver outside the company too.

Use a professional network to find a former manager. Many will still write a note.
