Getting references after a company closes - any advice?

I worry a reference will only confirm dates of employment. There are 4 people counting on me, so I am trying to be careful. HR only confirms titles and dates.

Use a professional network to find a former manager. Many will still write a note.

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
