Explaining a gap after caregiving or layoff - what worked for you?

I have been out of work for 14 months and worry about the gap. I do not usually post, so bear with me. I am not sure how much to explain. What do you say in interviews?

I was hired after a 14-month gap. The manager said the skills test mattered more than the dates.

A short, honest line such as 'family caregiving' is enough for most employers. They mostly want to know you are ready now.
