Explaining a gap after caregiving or layoff - what worked for you?

I have been out of work for 6 months and worry about the gap. I am nervous about being filtered out. What do you say in interviews?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it 6 months ago, and it settled down once I kept a simple log of every call and form.
