Explaining a gap after caregiving or layoff (update)

I took time out to care for a family member after working as a security officer. It has been weighing on me all week. I have done some volunteering and a course during that time. Did anyone get past it?

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it last year, and it settled down once I kept a simple log of every call and form.

A short, honest line such as 'family caregiving' is enough for most employers. They mostly want to know you are ready now.
