Explaining a gap after caregiving or layoff (update)

I have been out of work for 13 months and worry about the gap. Any experience at all would help. I am not sure how much to explain. Did anyone get past it?

I was hired after a 13-month gap. The manager said the skills test mattered more than the dates.
