Explaining a gap after caregiving or layoff (update)

I have been out of work for 10 months and worry about the gap. I worked as a teaching assistant before this. I am nervous about being filtered out. What do you say in interviews?

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it 10 months ago, and it settled down once I kept a simple log of every call and form.

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It saved me later.
