Explaining a gap after caregiving or layoff, software tester here

I took time out to care for a family member after working as a software tester. I worked as a software tester before this. I am nervous about being filtered out. What do you say in interviews?

I was hired after a 9-month gap. The manager said the skills test mattered more than the dates.

A short, honest line such as 'family caregiving' is enough for most employers. They mostly want to know you are ready now.
