Explaining a gap after caregiving or layoff, line cook here

I have been out of work for 8 months and worry about the gap. Thank you in advance. I am not sure how much to explain. Did anyone get past it?

I was hired after a 8-month gap. The manager said the skills test mattered more than the dates.
