Explaining a gap after caregiving or layoff - any advice?

I have been out of work for 11 months and worry about the gap. I have been trying to stay organised about it. I am nervous about being filtered out. Did anyone get past it?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
