Explaining a gap after caregiving or layoff - any advice?

I have been out of work for 8 months and worry about the gap. I do not usually post, so bear with me. I have done some volunteering and a course during that time. Did anyone get past it?

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it 8 months ago, and it got easier once I kept a simple log of every call and form.
