Explaining a gap after caregiving or layoff after 16 years as a production planner

I took time out to care for a family member after working as a production planner. Thank you in advance. I am nervous about being filtered out. What do you say in interviews?

I was hired after a 8-month gap. The manager said the skills test mattered more than the dates.

A short, honest line such as 'family caregiving' is enough for most employers. They mostly want to know you are ready now.
