Explaining a gap after caregiving or layoff after 15 years as a quality inspector

I have been out of work for 5 months and worry about the gap. I have read a lot of threads here and could not find my exact situation. I am not sure how much to explain. Did anyone get past it?

A short, honest line such as 'family caregiving' is enough for most employers. They mostly want to know you are ready now.
