Explaining a gap after caregiving or layoff after 12 years as a machine operator

I have been out of work for 8 months and worry about the gap. This is my first time dealing with any of this. I am not sure how much to explain.

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it 8 months ago, and it settled down once I kept a simple log of every call and form.
