Explaining a gap after caregiving or layoff

I took time out to care for a family member after working as a line cook. I have read a lot of threads here and could not find my exact situation. I have done some volunteering and a course during that time. How did you handle it on your résumé?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It saved me later.
