Explaining a gap after caregiving or layoff - 13 months and counting

I took time out to care for a family member after working as a forklift operator. I would rather hear the honest version than the polite one. I am nervous about being filtered out. Did anyone get past it?

A short, honest line such as 'family caregiving' is enough for most employers. They mostly want to know you are ready now.
