Contract work or permanent, which would you take? after 5 years as a warehouse supervisor

The pay is fair but there are no benefits. I am in Knoxville, in case local advice matters. I have 12 months of savings left. How did you handle benefits?

I took a contract and it converted after four months. The time also kept my skills current.
