Contract work or permanent, which would you take? after 16 years as a welding apprentice

A permanent role may come up, but the contract starts now. Thank you in advance. I have 4 months of savings left. Did a contract become permanent?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
