Contract work or permanent, which would you take? after 16 years as a production planner

I got a contract offer for 16 months as a production planner and I am unsure whether to accept. Thank you in advance. The contract could extend. Did a contract become permanent?

I took a contract and it converted after four months. The time also kept my skills current.
