Contract work or permanent, which would you take? after 14 years as a medical assistant

I got a contract offer for 14 months as a medical assistant and I am unsure whether to accept. This is my first time dealing with any of this. The contract could extend. What would you do?

If savings are low, I would accept and keep applying. You can leave for a permanent role if one appears.

I took a contract and it converted after four months. The time also kept my skills current.
