Contract work or permanent, which would you take? after 13 years as an IT help-desk technician

I got a contract offer for 13 months as an IT help-desk technician and I am unsure whether to accept. I am in Dallas, in case local advice matters. I have 4 months of savings left. How did you handle benefits?

If savings are low, I would accept and keep applying. You can leave for a permanent role if one appears.
