Contract work or permanent, which would you take? after 11 years as a retail manager

A permanent role may come up, but the contract starts now. It has been a long 4 weeks. I have 13 months of savings left. How did you handle benefits?

Ask about extension likelihood and whether the team has hired contractors before.
