Contract work or permanent, which would you take?

I got a contract offer for 11 months as a welding apprentice and I am unsure whether to accept. Any experience at all would help. I have 8 months of savings left. Did a contract become permanent?

Buy coverage through the marketplace if the contract has none. I budgeted for it before signing.
