Contract work or permanent, which would you take?

A permanent role may come up, but the contract starts now. This is my first time dealing with any of this. I have 12 months of savings left. How did you handle benefits?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
