Cold messages to people in my field, do they work? - 2 months and counting

I sent 15 messages on a professional network and got two replies. I have read a lot of threads here and could not find my exact situation. Some people reply with short answers.

I asked what they wish they had known at my stage. People enjoy answering that.

Do not apologise for asking. Most people remember someone who helped them.
