Changing careers at 7 years into a job, is it realistic? (update)

I want to move from retail manager to something with more stability. I would rather hear the honest version than the polite one. My family is supportive but nervous. Has anyone made a similar move?

You likely have more transferable skills than you think. Write down what you did, not what the job title said.
