Changing careers at 7 years into a job, is it realistic? (update)

I want to move from quality inspector to something with more stability. I have been trying to stay organised about it. I have a little time and a small budget for training.

Try a small project in the new field before committing. It told me a lot about whether I would enjoy it.

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It saved me later.
