Changing careers at 7 years into a job, is it realistic? (Boise)

After 7 years as a hotel front-desk agent I am thinking about moving into a different field. It has been a long 5 weeks. My family is supportive but nervous. Has anyone made a similar move?

I took a small pay cut for a year, and it was worth it for the growth afterwards.
