Changing careers at 7 years into a job, is it realistic?

I want to move from security officer to something with more stability. There are 7 people counting on me, so I am trying to be careful. I have good customer skills and I am comfortable with spreadsheets.

I began with informational chats, then a short online course, then a related entry-level role. It took about 3 months.

Try a small project in the new field before committing. It told me a lot about whether I would enjoy it.
