Changing careers at 17 years into a job, is it realistic? - any advice?

I want to move from software tester to something with more stability. Any experience at all would help. I have good customer skills and I am comfortable with spreadsheets.

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
