Changing careers at 16 years into a job, is it realistic?, data-entry clerk here

After 16 years as a data-entry clerk I am thinking about moving into a different field. It has been a long 18 weeks. My family is supportive but nervous. How did you start?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
