Changing careers at 16 years into a job, is it realistic? - 25 weeks in

After 16 years as a security officer I am thinking about moving into a different field. I am in St. Louis, in case local advice matters. My family is supportive but nervous. Has anyone made a similar move?

I took a small pay cut for a year, and it was worth it for the growth afterwards.
