Changing careers at 15 years into a job, is it realistic? - what worked for you?

After 15 years as a store manager I am thinking about moving into a different field. It has been a long 7 weeks. I have good customer skills and I am comfortable with spreadsheets. How did you start?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
