Changing careers at 14 years into a job, is it realistic? - 11 months and counting

My layoff made me rethink whether to stay in my field. I am in Omaha, in case local advice matters. My family is supportive but nervous. Has anyone made a similar move?

I took a small pay cut for a year, and it was worth it for the growth afterwards.
