Changing careers at 13 years into a job, is it realistic? - 11 months and counting

My layoff made me rethink whether to stay in my field. There are 13 people counting on me, so I am trying to be careful. My family is supportive but nervous. Has anyone made a similar move?

Try a small project in the new field before committing. It told me a lot about whether I would enjoy it.
