Changing careers at 11 years into a job, is it realistic? - what worked for you?

My layoff made me rethink whether to stay in my field. Any experience at all would help. I have good customer skills and I am comfortable with spreadsheets. Has anyone made a similar move?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.

I began with informational chats, then a short online course, then a related entry-level role. It took about 7 months.
