Career change after a layoff, where to begin? (update)

My layoff made me rethink whether to stay in my field. It has been a long 15 weeks. I have good customer skills and I am comfortable with spreadsheets.

Try a small project in the new field before committing. It told me a lot about whether I would enjoy it.

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
