Career change after a layoff, where to begin? (update)

I want to move from home health aide to something with more stability. It has been a long 7 weeks. I have a little time and a small budget for training. Has anyone made a similar move?

I began with informational chats, then a short online course, then a related entry-level role. It took about 13 months.
