Career change after a layoff, where to begin?

After 15 years as a nurse's aide I am thinking about moving into a different field. It has been a long 22 weeks. My family is supportive but nervous. How did you start?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
