Career change after a layoff, where to begin? - any advice?

I want to move from medical assistant to something with more stability. It has been a long 10 weeks. My family is supportive but nervous. Has anyone made a similar move?

I began with informational chats, then a short online course, then a related entry-level role. It took about 9 months.

Try a small project in the new field before committing. It told me a lot about whether I would enjoy it.
