Career change after a layoff, where to begin? - any advice?

I want to move from nurse's aide to something with more stability. Thank you in advance. I have good customer skills and I am comfortable with spreadsheets. Has anyone made a similar move?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It saved me later.
