Career change after a layoff, where to begin? after 3 years as an accounts payable clerk

I want to move from accounts payable clerk to something with more stability. My family is supportive but nervous. Has anyone made a similar move?

I took a small pay cut for a year, and it was worth it for the growth afterwards.
