Career change after a layoff, where to begin? after 12 years as a school bus driver

After 12 years as a school bus driver I am thinking about moving into a different field. I have been trying to stay organised about it. I have a little time and a small budget for training. Has anyone made a similar move?

Try a small project in the new field before committing. It told me a lot about whether I would enjoy it.
