Career change after a layoff, where to begin? - 9 months and counting

I want to move from forklift operator to something with more stability. I would rather hear the honest version than the polite one. My family is supportive but nervous. Has anyone made a similar move?

I took a small pay cut for a year, and it was worth it for the growth afterwards.

Try a small project in the new field before committing. It told me a lot about whether I would enjoy it.
