Are certifications worth it while job hunting? - what worked for you?

I am considering a short certificate to improve my chances as an electrician's helper. It has been a long 6 weeks. I would like to use funding if possible. Did a certificate help you get hired?

The workforce centre told me about training funds I qualified for. It covered most of my course.

A hands-on course with a project helped more than a purely online one.
