Are certifications worth it while job hunting? - what worked for you?

I am considering a short certificate to improve my chances as a school bus driver. It has been a long 9 weeks. I am unsure whether employers value it. Is there free funding?

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it 10 months ago, and it got easier once I kept a simple log of every call and form.
