Are certifications worth it while job hunting? - what worked for you?

I am considering a short certificate to improve my chances as a line cook. I do not usually post, so bear with me. I can study evenings. Did a certificate help you get hired?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.

A hands-on course with a project helped more than a purely online one.
